Professional Indemnity Insurance

The Legal Profession's Professional Code of Conduct (BRAO) obliges the lawyer to maintain a professional indemnity insurance. A partnership company with limited professional liability is obliged to have an insurance with a minimum insured amount of EUR 2,500,000.00 for each occurrence of event insured. The details are stipulated in §§ 51, 51a BRAO.

The professional indemnity insurance is made with Allianz Versicherungs-AG in 10900 Berlin, Germany. The territorial scope of the insurance comprises services in all members states of the European Union and complies with the requirement of §§ 51, 51a BRAO.


Notice regarding Alternative Dispute Resolution

In case of disputes between lawyers and their clients arising from a mandate relationship, it is possible to apply for alternative dispute resolution with the regional bar association pursuant to § 73 para 2 no. 3 in connection with § 73 para 5 BRAO.

Moreover, the German Federal Bar Association in Berlin, Germany has established a Conciliation Committee (Schlichtungsstelle der Rechtsanwaltsschaft (§§ 191 et seq BRAO)). The rules of the Conciliation Committee are published on the website of the German Federal Bar Association on

Information regarding Online Dispute Resolution/European Online Dispute Resolution Platform

Since 15th February 2016 the European Commission has offered a platform for online dispute resolutions. Consumers have the possibility to clarify disputes relating to an online purchase order without involving a court. The possibility to bring the dispute before the national courts remains unaffected.
